教學目標：Social Design is an emerging design research field. In the last ten years design practitioners and researchers have started to explore what role design could have in social change processes that contribute to social innovation and sustainability. This course will examine ethical and social issues in design, as well as the impact of globalization. Students will engage in theoretical discussions, study important design examples, and develop class projects by design strategies. 社會設計的所關注的議題，包含農業、食物、居住、交通、能源、休閒、教育、生態、環保、性別、種族、家庭等等，設計的產物包含產品設計、空間設計、服務設計、制度設計等，而其實踐的方式包含社會型企業、企業社會責任、群眾募資、非營利組織、公民運動、政策倡導等。社會設計課程最主要的目標，並不在於「設計」本身，而是在開始設計之前的田野調查、現況分析、議題論述、及網絡建立等基本能力。引導學生如何理性客觀的進行社會議題的觀察與分析，並提出合乎邏輯且有說服力的論述與行動。
